Mom and Dad asked me to take Joel along with me. He was begging and begging, and though he isn’t old enough to participate, he could still travel with me and cheer me along! BUT! I had to promise to look out for him and not put him in harms way. I agreed and made that promise, and I made Munchlax and Litten promise too!
We headed straight for the Professors’ Lab and met Hau and Lillie and Professor Kukui. He walked us to the School.
The Professor decided it was best for Lillie to attend as well. He believes it’ll help her overcome her fear of Pokémon. So we all enrolled!
There we learned the basics of battling.
It was clear why Litten had lost to Hop! Not only was Hau already familiar with battling, what with his grandfather being a Kahuna, but he also had the type advantage!
We learned about Types, Moves, and everything else you could think of!
Our final test we needed to pass in order to graduate from Trainer School was to catch a new Pokémon and use it in a battle against our teacher, Mrs. Emily.
Hau and I immediately ran outside to the school yard in search for a Pokémon. While searching, I took on a few other students that were trainers. This trainer named Joseph gave me a run for my money! He and his Alolan Grimer were tough opponents. After nearly losing the battle, I noticed in the bushes near the fence of the school there was another Alolan Grimer mimicking Joseph’s Pokémon . He looked really excited to battle! However, when Joseph noticed him, he mocked Grimer and claimed he was a reject and would never be any good as a Pokémon.
Apparently this Grimer had been around the school for a while and was very clumsy.
This insult really seemed to make Grimer sad, and he began to slump away. I ran over to Grimer and said I was sorry that Joseph was so mean and that I believed he could become an amazing Pokémon! This made Grimer puff up with pride and shout with excitement. I let out Munchlax and Litten and told Grimer that I needed a new buddy to join our team and asked if he’d like to join us. Grimer looked over at both Munchlax and Litten and they both smiled and shouted with excitement. Grimer smiled even bigger and throw up his hands in excitement! I grabbed a Pokéball and threw it down at Grimer and caught him and cheered!
Now came the moment of truth:
Taking on Mrs. Emily.
I proudly walked back to the school and ran into the classroom.
Hau was finishing his battle and won with his new Pokémon, Eevee.
He smiled and waved after the battle and joined Lillie on the sidelines.
Lillie wasn’t actually participating in the challenge. She still wasn’t quite ready to catch herself a Pokémon just yet. She and Joel waited inside and Mrs. Emily was teaching them even more about Pokémon like how items worked and how certain Pokémon have even more forms to change in to.
Mrs. Emily said that I could use all 3 of my Pokémon if I wanted, but I HAD to use my newly acquired Alolan Grimer.
I began with Litten as she sent out her Magnemite, and won pretty easily since I had the type advantage.
Next up she sent out her Alolan Meowth and unfortunately Litten was tired and lost. I then sent out my new Alolan Grimer. Grimer was so excited and did a great job, but we weren’t very in sync, and Mrs. Emily’s Meowth beat us.
It all came down to Alolan Meowth and my buddy Munchlax.
We had the upper hand since Alolan Meowth was noticeably getting tired. Munchlax wound up learning his new move Bite, and it brought us home the win!
We did it! We’d won against Mrs. Emily and officially graduated from the Pokémon Trainer School!
Lillie and Joel ran over and celebrated with me! Mrs. Emily healed Litten and Grimer and Hau came over with his team of Pokémon to give me a big smile and a peace sign.
Mrs. Emily gave me a Great Ball as a reward for completing the School. She told me that along my journey I’ll encounter very powerful Pokémon, and some will be very difficult to catch. This Great Ball will help me even the odds. She also strongly urged me to work on my relationship with Alolan Grimer. She’s very excited I chose to give him the opportunity to learn and grow, and that together we’ll do great things.
After that, Professor Kukui came to bring us back to his lab.
After eating and recounting everything we’d learned over the past week, he told us our next challenge would be taking on the First Island Captain’s Challenge.
I can’t wait!
